What is Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test ?

To ensure that persons recruited as teachers in Haryana possess the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at Elementary, Senior Secondary and Secondary levels a test known as Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test is held by BSEH is compulsory to pass.

Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test is one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any of the schools recognised by the Department of School Education Haryana and affiliated by the Board of School Education Haryana.

Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted by Board of School Education Haryana by the Guidelines and the rules/regulations/instructions/policies laid down by the National Council for Teacher Education/Department of School Education Haryana.

Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted for the following three levels:-

  1. For Classes I to V (Primary Teacher)
  2. For Classes VI to VIII (TGT – Trained Graduate Teacher)
  3. PGT (Post Graduate Teacher)

HTET Eligibility Criteria:-

All individuals who posses minimum educational qualifications etc. as delineated in the service rules relating to the teachers of all the three levels (available on the website of the School Education Department, Haryana (www.schooleducationharyana.gov.in) and also in these guidelines are eligible to take the test which will be conducted for the three levels must fulfills the minimum qualification.

However, a person who intends to be a teacher for levels (i) and (ii) mentioned here above (i.e. Teacher for classes I to V and VI to VIII) and fulfils minimum qualifications for both levels will have to apply On-line for both separately. Similarly, if a person who also intends to be a lecturer and satisfies minimum requirements, he/she will also have to apply On-line separately. Candidates are advised to follow the instructions as given on the website for submitting “On-line Application” for more than one levels.

The candidates must ensure whether thy are eligible or not before applying for HTET online.

HTET Syllabus &  Exam Pattern

  • Syllabus of HTET:-

There shall be only one paper. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) each carrying one mark with four alternatives out of which one answer will be correct.There shall be no negative marking.

Qualifying Marks for HTET:

Minimum marks to qualify Haryana TET is given below

  • For all Categories:60% (90 Marks)
  • For Scheduled Castes and differently abled/Physically Challenged: 55% (83 Marks)

No. of MCQs – 150; Duration of examination: one-and-a-half hours

 Scheme and structure for all three levels are as given here under:-

Level – 1 – For becoming Teacher for Classes I-V: Primary Teacher
  1. Child Development & Pedagogy – 30 Marks
  2. Language I (Hindi) – 30 Marks
  3. Language II (English) – 30 Marks
  4.  Mathematics – 30 Marks
  5.  Environmental Studies – 30 Marks
Level – 2 – Teacher for Classes VI-VIII: Elementary Stage (TGT)
  1. Child Development & Pedagogy – 30 Marks
  2. Language I – (English) – 30 Marks
  3. Language II – 30 Marks (Hindi/Sanskrit/Panjabi/Urdu – Choose any one)
  4. For Mathematics and Science Teacher: Mathematics and Science – 60 Marks
  5. For Social Studies teacher: Social Studies – 60 Marks
  6. For Hindi/English/Sanskrit/Panjabi/Urdu/ Choose either (iv) (a) OR iv (b)
  7. Home Science/Physical Education Teacher – 60 Marks
Level – 3: Post Graduate Teacher (PGT)
  1. Child Development & Pedagogy – 30 Marks
  2. Language I (Hindi) – 30 Marks
  3. Language II(English) – 30 Marks
  4. Subject Specific – 60 Marks
